This sounds like a big joke.
I'd rather emoji be removed from Unicode.
- dec0dedab0de 10y agoDoes it bother you that people enjoy a part of something that is otherwise boring? Users clamoring for the newest emoji's is the main thing driving adoption of updated unicode standards, that is surely a good thing.
- Pxtl 10y agoYes, but emoji are endlessly growing and politicized in a way Unicode shouldn't be. A global standard for emoji is a great idea, but Unicode isn't the right place for it.
- milesokeefe 10y agoWhy?
- krapp 10y agoUnicode contains Egyptian hieroglyphics, occult symbols, playing cards, wingdings, and Linear A - things no one will ever use, and which no one ever complains about. Emoji, meanwhile, have been used by people for decades to actually communicate, and people complain about them constantly. It doesn't make a lot of sense since clearly emoji fall within the intended purpose of Unicode, and removing emoji from Unicode would actually break things people care about.
