I work to better the long term economic state of my hometown and help people to find meaningful contributions to society other than a life of crime. However, I also don't let my aging mother go to the bad part of town. Having a solution for _now_ doesn't preclude you from working on a long term solution. Sure it is "victim blaming." But sitting on our hands for the perfect solution isn't progress either.
