Quite simple: They want to have an email client with features that are currently not offered by any other email client. I may of course be ignorant, but beyond being integrated within the browser, can you tell me of an email client that uses mutually inclusive folders that automatically sort email into themselves based on the same bayesian patterns that work for spam, and can be taught simply by dragging things in/out?
