I think people take funding for a few reasons 1) glitter or brainwashing 2) they don't know how to sell before they build (you're guaranteed a business if you have paying customers/clients) Also, it's a business, no lifestyle about it. Almost all businesses are bootstrapped (just like most businesses are not in the valley).
