The thing is, we have optimized for progress and productivity at the expense of our "wildness" and mother nature. Yes we are a developed world, but at what expense? Right now we are seeing the effects of this disconnect: global warming, depletion of resources, dying ocean, pollution, overpopulation, etc. Somehow in the future we need to have a right balance between productivity and our connection with the nature.
