"Consider the types of societies one finds across the Arab world and Africa to the societies one finds in Europe" Let's do that: European societies are nationalist (with distinct nations) and also functional. African and Middle Eastern societies are pan-Arabic/pan-Islamic and dysfunctional. I'm not claiming it's casuation not a mere correlation, but we should probably not fix what's not broken.
