Frankly, I'm worried that your only conclusion is that you "must have" gotten it wrong because of all the complaints. This wasn't even a borderline case. The decision was so plainly wrong, and reeks so much of politicized moderation, that anything but an outright acknowledgement of why seriously calls into question your ability to fairly moderate discussions on this site at all.
You're free to moderate your site however you want, but people who don't fit into the Silicon Valley hive-mind are going to be driven away by this animosity towards different perspectives.
After something like this, a little more than "I must have gotten it wrong" is necessary if you want people to trust you.
- dang 10y agoI think you're projecting a little here. It was so far from "politicized moderation" that I have no idea what politics you're even accusing me of.

A lot of people clearly feel the same way as me. You called a widely held perspective--though one clearly at odds with the predominant political views around here--"unthoughtful", "rage", "noise", "this kind of rant", and then buried it. If I was x0x0, I'd be quite upset to have the moderator of the site say all those things about my reasonably argued position, remove my comment from the discussion, and then not even acknowledge why it was a bad decision, or even retract those nasty and unwarranted characterizations. And everyone who saw this might think twice about sharing their perspective in the future because they might have their name dragged through the mud a bit too; you've given no reason to believe that you changed your decision for any reason but its unpopularity in this particular case.
