A wheelbarrow can be used for 100 years or more, because it's a simple mechanism. Why the focus on reliability? With an outside view of the past couple of centuries -- an iPod Nano is basically magic. My point being, I think we're often not amazed enough at everyday technology. I can't imagine Edison seeing a Nano and saying "well, what about durability?"
