The colour issue can be true for CFLs too, when I was living in Asia last year I had a really hard time finding warm-white bulbs. It seems like they prefer cold-white bulbs there (you even can see the difference when flying over Asia vs Europe). It's great for a kitchen where you need to see clearly what you are doing, but not so much when you want a cosy living room. I assume most LED bulb factories are in China at the moment, so they are just targeting their own preferences for colour.
