This is true, but now you are saving for a meager deposit so you can take on a mountain of debt so that the rentiers can keep all your labour.
This is not a good development, even if they used to do it in England in the 18th century.
- morgante 10y agoTo be clear, that's always been the case. Looking historically, the brief period in which the working class enjoyed a modicum of wealth in the 20th century is an aberration, not a historical precedent.
- branchless 10y agoSame for voting. What's your point?
- marf 10y agoAlways doesn't mean that it is a good thing.
- guard-of-terra 10y agoHumans always starved, always died of infections, always were mass-murdered. Why is that even an acceptable reason? All the XX century was about changing things that were considered constant. Have we given up? History should lead us somewhere. Is this already lost on us?
- morgante 10y agoI never said it was a good thing and I agree we should take steps to oppose rentiers. I'm just pointing out that the norm of easy homeownership is actually quite recent and unusual.
- guard-of-terra 10y agoThe norm of easy ownership of anything is quite recent. Any wealth was scarce. But now there's no reason why everybody won't have some place to live for them.
