As soon as AI kicks in, we'll have another order of magnitude increase in the ease of programming.
"Alexa, write me an API for this $5 wifi enabled light on my desk that I soldered together yesterday."

- fizx 10y agoI wish there was an IDE that would present code in your preferred format (e.g. 4 space tabs, curly braces on independent lines, etc), while still keeping the code on disk and in scm the same as the existing style (so diffs stay small, and your teammates are happy). It shouldn't be too hard to learn a bijective mapping between your style and everyone else's style. If we're still using IDEs in twenty years, I'd expect this to have been done by then.
- alexandercrohde 10y agoThis 100 times over. I cannot estimate the amount of time otherwise brilliant engineers have wasted over aesthetics that really aren't a meaningful part of the code and should be rendered distinctly on a per-developer basis.
