Fascinating how somebody can say nothing at all with so many words and give the impression he has a clue. He doesn't seem to know how computers or brains work. For example in the baseball catching story, there is no reason why a computer/robot shouldn't be able to use the same heuristic as a human. ("to catch the ball, the player simply needs to keep moving in a way that keeps the ball in a constant visual relationship with respect to home plate and the surrounding scenery" - why should that be incompatible with information processing?)
- panglott 10y agoThere's he's talking more about paradigms that require or oppose mental representations that simulate the motion of a ball. The point there is that it's unnecessary to have an internal mental representation simulating the motion of the ball in order to catch it.
- facepalm 10y agoThat's a funny way to claim brains are not like computers then. After all the usual argument is that computers have no internal representation of anything. Why would anybody demand that there has to be an internal mental representation of a ball to catch it?
