According to the writer's LinkedIn profile, he comes from the world of High Frequency Trading. That's an area where performance is so important, that it might make sense to design your own hardware. And you certainly don't want to distribute it to anyone...
I do agree with the writer that with each release, C++ has become more and more complicated, seriously hurting the maintainability of C++ code.
- entelechy 10y agoI also agree that c++ is getting more and more complex over time. However if you build things from scratch and you cherry pick your language features, C++ can be quite pleasant.
- TheOtherHobbes 10y agoThat's the problem - C++ isn't one language, it's at least three generations of languages living together in the same compiler, like an extended family crammed into a tiny apartment. No one has moved out since 1983, and new additions just keep on coming.
- gpderetta 10y agoWe c++ programmers are very welcoming. We have yet to meet a paradigm that we didn't like. On a more serious note, any old system acquires cruft with time and you don't always have the luxury of throwing away pieces or even restarting from scratch.
- ishi 10y agoIt may be pleasant for you, but not so pleasant for the next developer who needs to maintain your code. Perhaps he likes picking different cherries than yours...
- daemin 10y agoSo it seems like he wants people to learn FPGA based programming languages (Verilog, VHDL) because he will need to hire (more of?) these people soon.
