My understanding is that the quantity of documents that Snowden slurped up wasf too great for one person to filter, hence the need to provide them to the traditional media.
- slg 10y agoThis is likely true, but Snowden took all these documents and gave them to the press. He is therefore responsible for every document that is released. It doesn't matter who ultimately pulled the trigger on publishing the document, he is the one who orchestrated the whole leak. Also as far as I'm aware, there has not been a single instance in which Snowden has criticized Greenwald or anyone else for releasing a detail that he believes should have remained private. That seems like a tacit endorsement of everything that has been released.
- jlgaddis 10y agoI don't know if he's criticized any releases or not but, yes, he did provide them with the documents. He also said that the journalists would be the ones to decide what got released, released but redacted, etc. Greenwald, et al, have complete discretion in this regard. I'm not sure that a lack of criticism counts as a tacit endorsement and I'm not sure what it would accomplish anyways. I would find it surprising if he even knows what is going to be released before the general public does -- that is, he probably finds out at the same time we do (when it's posted).
