- Silhouette 10y agoThat's conceivable, but this kind of pyramid scheme rarely seem to be very successful. It's the same argument some pirates use for sharing their latest movie rips with other pirates, but it only works if it's not pirates all the way down.
- soared 10y agoAre you trolling? Social shares are a pyramid scheme and a nonviable way to drive traffic?
- Silhouette 10y agoDriving traffic isn't the goal. Generating revenue is. My original point was that driving traffic that doesn't generate revenue one way or another is actively bad for a commercial site.
- soared 10y agoFor most sites I would say that distinction doesn't exist (eCommerce), but I guess for adblockers its true. I think if Forbes lost 100% of their adblocker traffic they would be worse off though. I don't know how I would justify it directly through revenue generated though. If they were smart they'd realize that long term their monetization method is going to change, and the value of someone as a lifetime reader is worth more than the lost revenue of a couple years of adblocking. There is something to be said about adblockers still seeing native ads, but thats unfortunately the route we are heading down.
