> Such cancer still causes the death of 4,000 women each year in the United States. It's estimated that about 15,000 HPV-associated cancers could be prevented each year by the vaccine. HPV is, unfortunately, often transmitted through sexual activity. It's the cause of genital warts, and it's an extremely common sexually transmitted infection.
> The vaccine is safe. By the summer of 2012, more than 46 million doses of the vaccine had been given in the United States -- almost all to girls because of early awareness of HPV's link to cervical cancer -- and adverse events from vaccines are closely monitored.
> Moreover, there is growing evidence that the recent increase in cancers of the head and neck are also associated with HPV infection. A recent study of more than 1,300 patients with oral cancer found that more than 55% of them were infected with HPV.
- pfarnsworth 11y agoAnd I'm going to group you in with the militant sheep that follow orders without questioning them. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH!
- minikites 11y agoIronic coming from someone who follows the anti-vax herd despite a raft of evidence to the contrary.
- pfarnsworth 11y agolol I just said my kids and I are fully vaccinated. Militant sheep is a good name for you. Anyone who dares to say anything about a single vaccination is a part of the anti-vax herd. You should be proud of yourself, Merck would love you.
- ceejayoz 11y ago> I just said my kids and I are fully vaccinated. You explicitly stated that this isn't going to be the case: > I'm not going to get my son vaccinated.
- pfarnsworth 11y agoHPV isn't until the kids are 11 or 12. For all of the vaccinations that are currently required for their ages, they are fully vaccinated. I don't see how I can be considered "part of the anti-vaxx herd" if my kids and I are fully vaccinated as to what is appropriate for their age groups. As I mentioned, I disagree with the HPV vaccination, but that is 1 out of dozens. To call me an anti-vaxxer is laughable.
