Maybe if we handle it like we handle cigarette smoking? Not illegal, but regulated, heavily taxed, only for adults, only in designated areas, and with a government campaign that points out all of the (mental) health hazards that come with it?
- Fastidious 11y agoAbsolutely not. There is too much regulation as it is. Cigarette smoking harms, the smoker and others. Prostitution does not.
- justinlardinois 11y agoWouldn't that proposal be less regulation than what there currently is?
- jordigh 11y agoProstitution harms too, even legalised: http://vaw.sagepub.com/content/10/10/1087.abstract http://vaw.sagepub.com/content/10/10/1087.abstract
- kristofferR 11y agoThat's written by a well known feminist anti-pornography and anti-prostitution activist, who was accused by her research assistant of fabrication and misrepresentation of data... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melissa_Farley https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melissa_Farley
- riyadparvez 11y agoI do not think prostitution does harm to the same extent smoking does.
- jordigh 11y agoIt exposes you to STIs that cannot be prevented with condoms, if nothing else.
- vezycash 11y agoI think regulation might be worse. With regulation comes licensing / certifications which of course costs money that most prostitutes don't have. Basically, it'll create a new legal class of pimps.
- makomk 11y agoI think that this has already happened in Nevada thanks to the licensing restrictions on brothels there.
