Romanian hacker Guccifer: I breached Clinton server, 'it was easy'
- 2ifrgtmypss 10y agoProve it. Releasee the emails
- mtgx 10y agoThe most interesting part of the article: > In the process of mining data from the Blumenthal account, Lazar said he came across evidence that others were on the Clinton server. > "As far as I remember, yes, there were … up to 10, like, IPs from other parts of the world,” he said.
- snowwrestler 10y agoThat section didn't make sense to me. The Blumenthal account was at AOL, so if Guccifer was mining data there, how could that give any clue about who was on Clinton's server?
- krypton36 10y agoGuccifer looked at the email header of the Blumenthal email(and others) to get Hillary's server IP address. Apparently he gained access to the server and was able to run IP scans. So he probably had root access to it.
- Mendenhall 10y agoI thought that was very interesting myself but I thought this was also. "For Lazar, a plea agreement where he cooperates in exchange for a reduced sentence would be advantageous. He told Fox News he has nothing to hide and wants to cooperate with the U.S. government, adding that he has hidden two gigabytes of data that is “too hot” and “it is a matter of national security.”
- DKnoll 10y agoIt's not even remotely interesting that a mail server used (unofficially) by the State Department would be accessed from around the world... many of their officials travel constantly.
- cwilkes 10y agoI don't think he's talking about accessing email on the server, but rather that others had root access on the box.
- DKnoll 10y agoThat's quite a jump to make... how does 12 IPs authenticating successfully translate to root access? We already know who root was, and it was a State Department admin.
- patrickg_zill 10y agoThey should basically release all of it. If a single Romanian hacker has it, China and Russia have all of it also. The only people kept in the dark will be US citizens.
- NN88 10y agoI mean, he used Russian VPNs.
- DKnoll 10y agoHe used SOCKS proxies. :)
- patrickg_zill 10y agoI figured that the Russians knew about her private email address almost immediately, and probed the server directly. I mean, she was going to be SecState - any Russian spy tasked with watching her who didn't try it, should be fired :)
