Hm, okay, I think we're making progress here though. I've started and continued quite a few controversial conversations that have "harmed" some[1] relationships, but overall I think it's for the better and has improved the relationships I want to improve.

- MawNicker 10y agoLol. I save my outrageous comments for face to face conversations. I'm a tad psychopathic. I like the reactions. I once suggested that black people were dumber than white people. This is widely demonstrated in IQ tests. The common argument is that these tests are culturally biased. But I think that's a sly misdirection. A more direct explanation would be that IQ is a function of well-being. Black people are oppressed. That and the history of slavery has left it's mark. I also imagine the inclination to reflect on their own oppression has a significant cost on the expression of IQ. Even if they were no longer oppressed. I don't feel that these comments are racist. I think we live in a competitive and compassionless society. Oppressed people are usually less useful. Black or white. The problem is that it's so easy to see if a person is black or white. So if there's a correlation then anyone can apply a "filter" using the measurable trait and select for the desirable trait. This furthers both the oppression and the effectiveness of the filter. At the time I was trying to explain why I thought Affirmative Action was necessary even though it was fundamentally "racist". Anyway... Since making that argument several people have asked me if I really think black people are dumber... Ugh. No. I think oppressed people are dumber and that black people are more oppressed. It is apparent that we need to talk about these things but I'm often frustrated by accusations of "racism". I don't know if anything can really be done about it. Identity is just something people are always going to be sensitive about. I've gotten better at reading my audience. EDIT: Or maybe I can't read my audience. Lol. I'm honestly curious what's wrong with this thinking? Why do explanations of the world always have to shy away from this innate domination loop? Do we need it that badly as wannabe capitalists? Affirmative Action is totally necessary for exactly the reasons I've suggested. Racism exists because humans are greedy. If any measurable trait (height, weight, age, race, gender) slips in correlation with our ideals we become prejudiced against it. Without intervention the schism just widens after that. It's the natural social mechanic. This is how so many people can act out oppression without being conscious of their hand in it. I'm actually trying to be a good human being. Albeit one who thinks political correctness serves oppressors and not the oppressed. :/
- unimpressive 10y ago>I'm a tad psychopathic. If you're trying to garner empathy, leading with this is a terrible way to do it.
- MawNicker 10y agoI was being flippant. But yeah... Agreed. I do like the reactions. You learn a lot about how people process information. Especially socially controversial information. I honestly don't really care what happens with anything in the world anymore. I'm not pushing a cause. I'm very much of the George Carlin mindset. I have a ticket to the freak show. I would prefer it if things were better but I'm very cynical. Notable though... the hatred of psychopaths. When the prevalence of pro-social psychopaths is fully revealed (like James Fallon) I suspect we will see some interesting political dynamics. They're widely and irrationally hated. You could argue they've already been unfairly profiled and oppressed by society. We really need to be able to talk about this stuff. IMHO
