Social Justice Warrior, an attempted dogwhistle[1] used by GamerGaters / men's rights activists / anyone of scared of a more equal society, in a derogatory way against people who promote equality and not being a dick on the Internet.

- berberous 10y agoThis is an unfair comment. SJW became a term for a reason. South Park is pretty liberal and spent the entirety of last season mocking these people. See, also, the ridiculous 'safe space' drama at places like Yale.
- sjy 10y agoSouth Park's centre-right perspective is so well known there's even a political class named after it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Park_Republican https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Park_Republican
- logfromblammo 10y agoI always thought that the 4 main characters were proxies for different parts of American society, which re-aligned as necessary to fit the theme of the episode, except that Cartman is always the evil, self-centered, ultraconservative sociopath. For instance, if the boys were old enough to vote: Kyle - Bernie Sanders Stan - Hillary Clinton Kenny - Donald Trump Cartman - the secret genetic hybrid of Hitler and Reagan, but mostly Hitler, Eric Cartman If the boys were classic Universal Studios monsters: Kyle - Frankenstein's Golem Stan - Wolf-Man Kenny - Mummy Cartman - The Invisible Dracula from the Black Lagoon that Couldn't Die, in London If the show seems to have a right-wing alignment, it is probably because Cartman gets so much screen time as the over-the-top punchline to whatever joke it is that the other three kids set up, and he hates hippies and Jews with a passion (of Mel Gibson).
- TeMPOraL 10y ago> a derogatory way against people who promote equality and not being a dick on the Internet By being the biggest dicks on the Internet, not afraid of lying, blackmailing and destroying careers and lives by unleashing Internet lynch mobs. I'm sorry, but SJW movement is a cancer on the society, and it's way beyond issues of "equality" now. They're going out of their way in deploying underhanded tactics to destroy anyone who doesn't agree with their vision of "equality". People who actually promote "equality and not being dick on the Internet" are usually known as "reasonable people", and their group is known as "civilization".
- drabiega 10y agoThis seems contrary to my experience, could you provide some examples? Obviously each of us only sees a portion of the internet, but from what I've seen it seems like most of the stuff you are describing has been aimed at people described as SJWs, not perpetrated by them.
- TeMPOraL 10y agoWe may be indeed seeing different parts of the Internet. I don't disagree there are people you describe who show the characteristics I mentioned in the post. I mostly try to navigate as far as I can from those parts of the Internet. If you want examples of problems with SJW, I think it's best for me to link SSC: http://slatestarcodex.com/?s=social+justice http://slatestarcodex.com/?s=social+justice That's about the only source I know that a) points out the problems, b) stays civil while doing that, and c) does not commit the same "crimes". Many other complaints I've seen about SJW are done by people not better than the group they're criticizing. The both sides of this war are really a symptom of a bigger issue; if there's one thing that's worth to read on SSC in this topic, it's the classic - "Toxoplasma of Rage" - http://slatestarcodex.com/2014/12/17/the-toxoplasma-of-rage/ http://slatestarcodex.com/2014/12/17/the-toxoplasma-of-rage/.
- CM30 10y agoHow about this? http://imgur.com/a/wbK77 http://imgur.com/a/wbK77 I may not like the people in that Donald Trump subreddit, but trying to blackmail the staff with doxing threats is extremely unethical, and as blatant as it gets.
- Pxtl 10y agoTo be fair, a good chunk of the social justice community online is intensely vitriolic. Because they deal with the worst trolls on the Internet, they've developed an intensely callous and mean-spirited approach to "social justice" and have made absurd terms like "die cis scum" into catch-phrases. Basically, they have the moral high-ground... but are turning it into a crater. Reddit has /r/ShitRedditSays, which is the perfect example of this approach of "social justice trolling". http://imgur.com/gallery/40Idny0 http://imgur.com/gallery/40Idny0
- ak_wa 10y agoJustification of some truly abhorrent methodology aside, it's quite a stretch to call the people SRS picks fights with "the worst trolls on the internet". What are you alluding to here, gamergate? I'd think the GNAA would rank high above them.
- Pxtl 10y agoSJ people online deal with a constant barrage of threats of violence and rape - look at the crap Sarkeesian has to deal with - actual IRL threats to meatspace events. That's a bit worse than getting rickrolled with GNFOS. That doesn't justify the nastiness of the SJW blogosphere, but it definitely explains it.
- Torgo 10y agoIt is an intellectually intolerant ideology, that is the beginning and the end of the explanation of it. It crosses all classes and demographic groups, it thinks it is right and everyone else is wrong, and if you're that sure of something, you have the moral authority to stamp out anyone who disagrees with you. It's been a characteristic of the far left for hundreds of years.
- tomjen3 10y agoSJW are the kind of people who will post things like this: http://catsickles.tumblr.com/post/105335581709/to-do-list-break-a-cis-persons-fucking-arm-off http://catsickles.tumblr.com/post/105335581709/to-do-list-br... The key part is the warrior - they started fighting for what is good and became everything they were against (discriminating based on color, gender, sexualorientation). Is that most of the feminists? No. As evidenced by how many reasonable people you can find when you look at tumblr under the cisgender tag.
- wang_li 10y ago> a more equal society For a certain definition of equal based on superficial ways of viewing the world.
