I'm curious why they cut prices by 40% right off the bat?
Surely they must have had some idea what their competition would charge from historical bids, so why not come in at a 30% or even 20% discount?
- hga 10y agoMight be a generally better business strategy going forward, it makes it more difficult to match their price, doesn't get them hooked on higher and ultimately non-sustainable profit margins, etc. Also, when they publish their prices to normal customers (http://www.spacex.com/about/capabilities http://www.spacex.com/about/capabilities), it would look bad if the premium they charge the government for additional costs such as security was too high.
