I've always thought it would be incredibly convenient to have a remote-unlock for my front door like my car has. I'm always fumbling with my key while carrying bags or groceries. It would be nice to unlock the door from my car before gathering everything. I guess remote garage-door openers remedy this for most homeowners.
- Semiapies 17y agoWhat would you do during a power-outage?
- dkokelley 17y agoThat's another thing. Why don't almost all homes come with backup generators? I doubt it would be difficult to operate in a housing track.
- Semiapies 17y agoSo it's silly to have spare tires and jacks in cars, but houses should come with backup generators? :)
- HeyLaughingBoy 17y agoBecause it's completely unnecessary for most? In the last 7 years I've lived in city, suburb, and now on a farm. The last time I lost power was about 10 years ago living in the city. Why should my house come with an expensive item I will most likely never need and if I did need it, is available within hours?
- sliverstorm 17y agoThey are expensive and require maintenance. I used to rent in an area that gets power outages that can last more than a couple days, 5-10 times a year. My landlord's family, who lived next door, didn't have a generator, were pretty well off, and just lit up candles. I asked the landlord's wife once, and she said simply 'too expensive'. If it wasn't worth it for them, how is it worth it for people who never have power outages?
- JoeAltmaier 17y agoAnd a wireless phone device at the demarcation point!
- smlacy 17y agoThere'd be a backup physical key, just like on my car. And/or it could be run via battery backup for 24+ hours. Short-range wireless devices like this don't draw much power.
