Having just spent 8 months in Sweden, I can assure you that their Socialism is purely 'children's creche' socialism, and not 'free bread' socialism.
There are some goods that have positive externalities and high fixed costs - the government should subsidise these. Education, defence, roads.
There are some goods that do not have positive externalities - the government should let the free market provide these. Bread, personal firearms, petrol.
Sweden subsidises the former, not the latter. Venezuela has subsidised the latter, often at the expense of the former.
