      What I would "accept" is irrelevant. All I'm saying is the reason the author provided is literally incredible.

        If you think the reason is incredible, it is precisely your incredulity and the reasons for it that are in question. Even if reason is a concept that is outside of human control, you're still attempting to apply it to this article. It is necessarily channeled through you when you comment on this situation. What you accept is relevant.
