Ask HN: Who's Playing Drums?
Some of the trappings of teenage years stay with you your whole life. For me, it was music. 70's progressive rock, to be specific (and obvious to Genesis fans).
At that time, losing Jim, Jimi and Janice in their prime was seen as the cost of doing business in the rock star world. But losing those 70s rock stars today means something completely different. If you understand my meaning, I hope you're doing well, man.
To blunt that point a bit, I've been formulating the band I am going to listen to in heaven. Some players are obvious. I've always wished the rumors of Keith Emerson trying to recruit Jimi Hendrix for ELP in 1970 were true (they weren't) [1]. So it's Keith on keyboards and Jimi on lead guitar and vocals.
Bass is a little less clear. I'd love to play Jaco Pastorius. He's a monster [2] and he did stints with Blood, Sweat & Tears and Joni Mitchell, but ultimately, I don't see a style fit. So I'll go with Chris Squire because he actually has met Jimi [3], his Rickenbacker punches through a Hammond, and he sings back up.
The real problem is drums. Keith Moon and John Bonham come to mind immediately. But the two I'd really want are not available, and I won't jinx them by naming them. So I can't decide.
So my question for Hacker News is: Who is playing drums in Rock Star Heaven?
