I wonder how much China would pay for a database full of identities and their respective facial appearance data?

This new feature comes courtesy of a deal Uber struck with a Chinese facial recognition startup, Face++. It’s currently in beta, and will be part of the drivers’ app in China next month. Does China have to pay for something it already owns?

Doesn't basically everyone have a drivers licence with a picture on it in America?

US doesn't have a map/list of the people in China. Think about it. Facebook basically has a map of all the people in the world except China.

U.S. has this too, it's called the DMV.
