Just fielding a "couple thousand lbs" of explosive over hundreds of miles of water is very difficult and expensive. You also have to consider the survivability of a modern carrier. These things are built to take significant hits.
- stcredzero 10y agoAs of the mid-80's, they were designed to take 10 anti-ship missile hits and possibly survive with good damage control crews operating. Not sure what direction they went with the Gerald Ford and other ships after the Nimitz class.
