CNN is a consistent mouthpiece for the United States Government. Shame on them for regurgitating such garbage.

  They aren't even that. They're a consistent mouthpiece for their own agenda, which is an imperfect copy, and sometimes conflicting, of the agenda of their majority shareholders. The government, however, has a Facebook relationship status with said majority shareholders of "it's complicated". CNN just wants eyeballs to read their headlines, they make it as clickbaity as possible. What they don't realize is they have to be on the level of Buzzfeed to make that work, and they aren't even close.

    It's also that intentionally leaked information and special access tend to be given to journalists who share the views of the organization or individual at hand, and will be more likely to put a favorable spin on the story. Of course it's natural that people gravitate toward like-minded others and mutually beneficial relationships arise, but depending on the circumstances it should be illegal. Take a look at the emails where Hillary Clinton more or less dictates to Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic (a news source that is still IMO far less seedy than the most popular media organizations).
