Ask HN: Jobs with non conventional schedules
Unfortunately, at 31, I've realized that the work I do isn't too valuable, though thankfully there are people willing to pay a decent salary.
As a product manager for large enterprise applications, I am neither someone with a ton of business domain knowledge, nor am I an engineer capable of building and shipping. Sadly, I also don't have the skills to contribute to a large start up, as I don't work on consumer products and very rarely do early stage start ups need someone with my types of expertise.
Slowly, I've realized that my dream of starting an internet company just aren't going to pan out. As stated above, the skills I've acquired over the past few years just don't translate to that type of work.
But I hold out hope I can take on other ventures outside of the IT/Software world. To do this, I need to have some time during the day and during working hours as these types of ventures aren't typically something you can do on Sunday afternoons.
My girlfriend is a nurse and works 3 12-hour shifts per week. This schedule is awesome, especially when she works Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and still has plenty of weekdays and a saturday to do stuff.
Are there any jobs in this field with some sort of flex schedule like this? I know there are some IT jobs where admins/techs are on call at odd hours, but this isn't really in my wheelhouse.
As far as I know, these jobs don't exist, but I thought I'd ask here to see if someone had any ideas.
