This actually happens offline on a daily basis. The only difference is that when you're selling online, all the customers are bumping shoulders in the same store and can see each other's prices. Where I live, a loaf of bread and a bottle of carbonated water will set you back the better part of $10, but in my wife's home town you can get the same thing for about 2€. The price of gas would be an even better comparison, since it's affected by local taxes, government subsidies, availability of materials, etc.
- belorn 11y agoIf you visit the store in your wife's hometown, do you pay the $10 price? If not, then the store do not care about your nationality, but it do care about the local taxes, government subsidies, availability of materials for the area in which the store is located in.

- belorn 11y agoA GeoIP database is a database that connects IP address with the nationality of the person who holds it. Netflix explicitly goes beyond this and also blocks those who go through a VPN, addressing the requirement to know the nationality of the customer.
- 13of40 11y agoWell there you go. When I'm in Italy I don't pay the American premium for fizzy water because the moment I step off the plane, I'm Italian. You can verify this by geolocating the IP address of my phone.
