You're getting down-voted because your argument boils down to Sam is a smart guy, trust him. Engineers like to think for themselves and play detective. For consolation, I had the same reaction especially when I first read the blog-post. Having read through this entire counter-complaint and the comments here, I'm not so sure anymore.
