This is a laudable idea, and I do dislike the focus on "breaking news" (which can apparently be anything currently happening). But, news sites have moved that direction because it works. I don't foresee many people collectively deciding to focus on one story for 3 days. We already have ways to dive into a subject when we are interested in it, and, collectively we just don't have the attention span to focus on a single topic. I think this would have to be funded by a nonprofit or a government grant.
- vit05 10y agoIt is definitely hard to do something like that. But just for some context, there some sites that are focused on only one subject. http://www.niemanlab.org/2013/01/lara-setrakian-single-story-sites-like-syria-deeply-have-lessons-to-offer-the-rest-of-the-news-business/ http://www.niemanlab.org/2013/01/lara-setrakian-single-story... http://www.syriadeeply.org/ http://www.syriadeeply.org/ http://www.arcticdeeply.org/ http://www.arcticdeeply.org/ Some research of the topic: http://towcenter.org/research/seeking-the-single-subject-news-model/ http://towcenter.org/research/seeking-the-single-subject-new...
