First, Now that you have an understanding of the type of boss you don't want, I would suggest trying to understand the type of boss that fits you. A bad boss to one might be motivating to another.
Ask questions like:
How do you support your team to be successful?
Tell me about a time when an employee impressed you?
I'm an average developer now but want to be great, can you help me get there? How?
How do you protect your team from outside distractions?
(most importantly) Why did you come to work here and what are you looking to achieve?
Not that these questions will fully determine the quality of the boss, but you can get a sense for the empathy previously mentioned by how they answer the questions.
