Correlation, yes, but are also proposing that low income causes to have more children? I rather believe that the causes for both, low income and too many children are both cultural origin.
Why I believe that? All the attempts to easy the burden of the low income people by development of the better crops have gone directly into increasing the population instead of increasing the wealth and well-being.
- morgante 11y agoThe correlations exist within countries, not just between them. Moreover, as an individual country's wealth increases generally its fertility rate declines. It seems like you have some bigoted beliefs and I challenge you to actually look at the data.
- eveningcoffee 11y agoI think that you fail to understand the reasons behind the wealth increase. Wealth increase does not usually happen by itself. It happens mostly because people do something differently. This change is very often gradual inside the society. Correlation between wealth increase and fertility rate in a single country is a very good indicator of this. The main question posed in my original post is actually different.

- eveningcoffee 11y agoI think that visually most representative is the population graph provided here http://visualizingeconomics.com/blog/2007/12/09/comparing-population-growth-china-india-africa-latin-america-western-europe-united-states http://visualizingeconomics.com/blog/2007/12/09/comparing-po... It does not include all the world regions, I understand that for example Eastern-Europe and most countries in Asia are missing, but I think that it communicates the bigger picture.
- fucking_tragedy 11y agoThe evidence to back your opinion comes down to dubious correlation on a graph?
- devdas 11y agoThere's a lag between higher incomes, a stabler higher quality of life and having fewer children. About three or four generations at least.
