  It cannot be secure because the webpage has access to the chat contents and is running code that came from Whatsapp. Whatsapp could change the code so it logs the contents from your phone back to them and you would have no way to know unless you log and check the javascript that comes with the page every time you open it. Similarly you have no way of knowing that the client is not sending your keys to the Whatsapp servers though. You just have to trust them.

    Plus, for many users, a number of Chrome extensions have access to the data on that web page.
