Hey akyker20, most certainly! From one side it's a little hard to say how everyone will take it, I mean, anything you would want to turn into a social thing, could be an event. The boundary lies in how social someone wants to be!
However, I do think individuals will create all sorts of events, dinner would be really nice and a creative change of pace, but I think in the beginning more people will opt for having outdoor activities, simply because of initial trust issues. Sports gatherings (baseball this sunday, basketball tournament, etc), networking events of all types, hackathons, anything with existing friends, and the like.
Eventually, I think people will be more comfortable after experimenting and will host all types of events like, bbq for <fill in your niche>, dinner, social gatherings, watch the superbowl, etc.
