Andrew's primary motivation isn't making cash. I don't see the connection between charging for media and a "slippery slope" - what are you referring to? If anything, isn't it better that he charge since then he's unlikely to need advertisers which would then make him more impartial when conducting interviews?

First reason under "Why I want to Charge" is "I want to earn money".

  If you read all the way through you'll note that he sees money as a form of validation. Hence money is not his primary motivation, but rather a method for substantiating his value.
