Ask HN: Does anyone else see Panama Papers as irresponsible journalism?
Have seen lots of images of famous people splashed around, accused of being involved. But there has been very little posted about exactly what they are being accused of, let alone evidence to back it up.
There is nothing illegal about owning an offshore account. Maybe they are doing something illegal with it (Iceland PM onviously did), but seemsweird to just throw the names out there and see what sticks.
Several of the people mentioned, such as Putin, aren't even named in the documents.
Why is the media withholding all the raw info, with no plans to release it until May? Does not seem consistent with the public interest, but a great way to milk the story for all it's worth.
It also seems strange that the media be the one in charge of picking which people deserve to be accused.
Wondring if anyone else agrees the whole thing smells fishy, and why nobody is talking about this.
