Right now that old lady on social security is likely paying property taxes that are 1/10th or less of what someone purchasing a similar house with the same market value would pay. Is that fair? If she has any children, she can even pass ownership of her home to them, and they will continue to pay her low property tax rate. (based on your username, I assume she lives in California)
