Part of the problem here is that not all interviewers can recognize a candidates learning aptitude.
Typically the interviewer is so enamored with his own coding style that if the candidate can't mimic his style the candidate is not acceptable.
If the candidate does not communicate in the interviewers style the candidate is not acceptable and so on.
As well, most programming projects are not about such simple problem solving tasks as printing out the contents of a text file backwards. Of course most people could figure this out and as my experience has been this is when most people think about such issues, when they are required to apply it to a larger problem at hand.
