- thejosh 11y agoAh yeah, Google never ditches or turns off products.
- ekianjo 11y agoSadly the NEXUS line was supposed to be an answer to that, until they decided "oh, we are going to drop long term support for older NEXUS devices actually". What a bunch of retards.
- throwaway049 11y agoI don't really expect a phone to be supported beyond 2 years because that's the standard contract length, although I do think it's wasteful and I've had my phone longer than that. My basic heating system control unit is about a decade old and I'm sticking with it.
- ekianjo 11y agoRecent phones (i.e. less than 5 years or so) still work pretty well even with the latest OS updates, there is really no reason to make them obsolete apart from the laziness on the part of Google / manufacturers. Even Apple has been supporting the original iPhone for much longer than 2 years. Buying a new phone every 2 years is not just a waste, it's expensive. You pay for it with your contract. I live SIM-free and i go for the cheapest providers without buying a new phone that often. Works fine and I have yet to see any application that's not running fast enough. The only missing piece of the lack of OS updates.
- gokhan 11y agoAnd my wife is still on iOS 6 on her 4s just fine, so what? Noone is releasing patches for either.
- smrtinsert 11y agoActually Google does, it's called the support library and its very much used.
- kuschku 11y agoAnd it doesn’t help Android <5 devices to get support for TLS.
- drauh 11y agoHey, I just sent you a message on Orkut.
- CaptainZapp 11y agoNot quite the same thing to discontinue a free service, or brick a device for which you shelled out actual cash, based on a promise, which turned out to be a pretty filthy lie.
- jklp 11y agoNot sure what you mean but Android 2.x has been been unsupported for awhile now - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_Gingerbread https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_Gingerbread
