People are baffled by Tesla's success? I don't really follow cars, but I do know that Tesla gets high marks from a lot of different independent organizations. Besides the whole electric car thing, there seemed to be a general opportunity in the auto industry for an upstart firm. It looks like a classic oligopoly where the incumbents got lazy. Tesla is doing to everyone what the Japanese did to the Americans in the 70s and 80s. Outcompeting the complacent incumbents.
