This is worlds better than being rude. In my experience it errs a little in the other direction because it leaves the situation a little ambiguous (and thus invites more conflict) by implying that it is debatable. Especially the "if that is ok with you part"
I might try something like: "it's important that this server is configured correctly, so it would be better if I took care of it myself, I Appreciate the effort though!"
- DrJokepu 11y agoYes, however, depending on the situation, it might be better to try to figure out why they want to do it themselves and offer an alternative, if possible. For example, if they want to do it because they want to gain experience configuring servers, you could tell them something like "I think I should really do this myself, but how about configuring $NEXT_TEST_ENVIRONMENT_SERVER next week?" or "Ok, then how about us doing it together?".
- icebraining 11y agoI find it interesting that both of these revisions include an assumption of incompetence by the junior, while the original was more ambiguous in that regard.
- ChrisDutrow 11y agoHe clarified somewhere in the comments that he was a junior that the time.
