We had a similar problem with lag for code reviews, so I wrote a bot to nag the Hipchat (moving to Slack this week) channel and remind people that repos had pending PRs that needed review. This helped quite a bit of getting code reviewed. Keeping PRs smaller definitely helped as well and now we typically have 3-5 PRs per day go in.
