The client is written in JavaScript 6 using React and the excellent Nearley library for lexing/parsing (http://nearley.js.org http://nearley.js.org).
Besides the editor, there is a small embedded language. Sort of a JavaScript without side-effects; the intention is to combine what you can do in a spreadsheet with a normal text editor.
The server is written in Java 8. Does not at this point support concurrent editing.
Works on the latest Chrome, Safari or Firefox. iPhone is partially supported. Input method editors (for writing i.e. Chinese) not supported.
- galfarragem 11y agoInteresting work but can it compete with jupiter notebooks? http://jupyter.org/ http://jupyter.org/
- chvid 11y agoJupyter looks very good; I haven't seen it before. I know that document editing, wikis, small programming languages are areas with lots of existing work. I don't really view EMU as competitor (if I did I would have given up already). I made it because it there are some fun and challenging problems there (creating a WYSIWYG editor in React, creating a language). Jupyter is as far as I can see a different approach than EMU; and very focused scientific computing. The text format in EMU is basic text with markdown style formatting and then an escape using tuborgs into a JavaScript-like language. The document format is fully visible to the end-user. The language is designed to be executed in final time and have no side-effects. Everything is done client-side. Jupyter has more complex format where entities of various types (text, images, programs in up to 40 different languages) are collected together in a single document (https://nbformat.readthedocs.org/en/latest/index.html https://nbformat.readthedocs.org/en/latest/index.html). The programs are executed on a server and results are transferred using a open protocol. It looks an impressive project though.
- jclos 11y agoIs the server part very important? It would be great as a self-contained javascript app that I can store on dropbox and sync between devices.
