I'm still looking for a FaiF version of something like this - does anybody know of one? Seems like a slap in the face to all of the OSM developers to use an entirely Free stack with a proprietary veneer on it.
- hyperknot 11y agoHi, I made MapHub. There is nothing I have against open sourcing parts or the full MapHub product, but it's a very delicate decision, so I'd like to wait and think more about it. Would a GitLab like business model make it more attractive for you?
- Mizza 11y agoExactly! I'm still happy to use a hosted version of the service, but I want to be able to improve it if I need to, or run my own service if yours die, etc.
- a3_nm 11y agoContrary to what the parent comment suggested, there's no problem with using OSM data for a proprietary service, but the home page says "An open platform", which I think is very misleading. Your platform is built on open data, but apparently it is not at all "open" itself.

- thomersch_ 11y agoYou might like http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/ http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/. But honestly, even if it's proprietary, OpenStreetMappers don't mind. We're happy that someone is using our data, that's what we are there for.
- Doctor_Fegg 11y ago+1. OSM loves things being built on it, of whatever licence.
- chippy 11y agoOpenStreetMap folks just care about the data, I doubt anyone would begrudge someone making a proprietary service using open data - it's the data that's important, after all. The OSM Project is not looking to replace Google My Maps, or to have such a service on the main osm.org website. Now, what you are looking for is probably something along the lines of uMap http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/UMap http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/UMap which has something like a WTFPL license https://github.com/umap-project/umap/ https://github.com/umap-project/umap/ and which is something I point people to. It's lacking the design flair of this product but it's probably a bit more feature rich.

- dsp1234 11y agoSeems like a slap in the face to all of the OSM developers to use an entirely Free stack with a proprietary veneer on it. Particularly since the author does not appear to be meeting their burden under the OpenStreetMap license. "You are free to copy, distribute, transmit and adapt our data, as long as you credit OpenStreetMap and its contributors."[0] "We require that you use the credit “© OpenStreetMap contributors”." "For a browsable electronic map, the credit should appear in the corner of the map. For example:" [0] - http://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright http://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright
- maxerickson 11y agoAs I switched through the different layers when viewing a map, the attribution changed, correctly reflecting the data sources. There might be a bug or two to work out, but they clearly aren't ignoring attribution.
- hyperknot 11y agoSorry, the "contributors" word was missing, I've updated the footers. On all the 3rd party maps I've used whatever was required in their guidelines.
- ionforce 11y agoHow do you expect a FaiF thing to exist? Clearly you mean "free to me".
- Mizza 11y agoHow does any Free software exist? Somebody makes it that way.
