It is tricky to relate high profits to low competition. Sometimes both can happen together.
The histogram on the article shows IT/Technology and Finance as being 2 sectors with high profits, but these are sectors with a fierce, cut-throat level of competition.
Also, as Peter Thiel argued, healthy profits are vital to finance innovation.
