Ask HN: Career after stepping-down from a funded company due to ethical issues?

Am curious what happens to executives when they're asked to step down from funded startups or large tech companies due to ethical issues? Is it easy for them to get another job, or get funding for their own startup, or hire people? Is it held against them or do people feel that it might have been a one-time mistake? Particularly interested in how they're treated by the VC community.
