Your post reminded me of another post[0] on the front page of HN showing how to extract sensitive signing keys for ECDSA, and it's amazing how ingenious the techniques are for doing that. The problems seem similar in spirit: extracting a signal through side-channels. It's obvious that there's a ton of runway left to do this stuff in the investment space, and with the amount of money to be made, plenty of cash to pay for it.
