It really isn't surprising. It started with the wind up to the turn over of Hong Kong and only continued after that. I wanted to move to Vancouver, but lack of tech scene (Dick Hardt doesn't count) played a big role during the late 90s/2000s. I continued to visit for various reasons at lead a week a year until just a few years ago. What started in the late 90s only continued.
